I hold a PhD in Peace- and development Research and work as a senior lecturer in Political Science at Halmstad University College. I’m also affiliated Scholar at the Swedish Institute for North American Studies and previous a guest professor at American University in Washington DC 2013-2014. I’m the author of two books and a regular commentator in the Swedish news media on issues related to the US foreign policy and the domestic development in the Unites States.

My latest book, The Illusion of the American Peace, is written together with Trita Parsi Quincy Institute, Washington DC, (2023). In the book we are dealing with the evolution of American foreign and security policy, the costs of the US war on terror and its consequences for international (in)security as well as for the domestic political development in the US.

In 2022 I was editor for a Special Issue for the Swedish Political Science Journal, which presented various challenges to American democracy. The title for the Special Issue was the somewhat provocative question; “Is the US still a democracy?”

2020 I published a book with the title “The Super Power - What all Swedes should know about the United States” (Mondial).

I teach in the political science program on the American political system, the role of the US in the world and in political communication, political influence and lobbying.

The main focus of my research in 2024 is the Swedish NATO debate, which narratives dominated it, what the space for dissent looked like in the media and who were the most prominent experts and interests in the crisis situation created by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. I will also be starting a new project on the changing dynamics of the global system, the world moving away from unipolarity towards multipolarity and what this might mean for peace and conflict in the world.
